Ankahee Helpline provides empathetic, nonjudgmental and confidential emotional support through trained volunteers to those who are experiencing emotional distress or thoughts of suicide and self harm.

Anyone, irrespective of your educational or professional background, who is 18 years or older can apply. A willingness to listen with empathy and an open mind is a must!

It is a 7-day-long training program held Online. Our next training batch starts in September.

The training is an immersive and interactive experience to understand concepts of Empathy, Active Listening, Self harm and Suicidality. Through various team activities, you will learn skills required to listen with empathy and ask the right questions to support someone in emotional distress.

The cost of the training is INR 2,500/-. These funds are used to support the day to day functioning of the helpline. If required, select candidates may be offered discounts on training fees on a need basis. Please write to our training team to check if you are eligible at ankaheevolunteering@gmail.com.

Yes, upon successful completion of the Training, you will be accredited with a Certificate of Completion!

As a volunteer you will be extending emotional support over phones and/or emails to those in distress by using your training. We are a 100% volunteer run helpline, so there are lots of other exciting opportunities such as Social Media, Tech Support, Outreach Programs, Admin and supporting roles that you can also help with.

If selected, you would need to volunteer for a minimum of 3 hours per week.

  • Applicants will be invited to be a part of a group discussion prior to the training. Candidates who are selected in the Group Discussion will be invited to join the training and pay the fees.
  • After training and practice of mock calls, candidates will undergo a selection interview. Only selected candidates can go on to become volunteers.
  • After Selection, you will be supported by experienced volunteers to help you confidently handle calls and emails, offering help from the front line. Similarly for all support functions, you will have mentors who will guide you in the respective function.
